Civil Rights

Civil rights has been a major movement in the United States Of America. It begin with The Declaration of Independence," all men are created equal. All men are created with certain rights among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. "This brings equality among all men. The Declaration of Independence gives us freedom and it tells us everyone is equal.

The article " Have We Overcome?" by: Rachel Swarns, talks about the problem that is taking place right now. Even though we have a Black President 50 percent of black people are not graduating from high school. This article is basically saying even through we have a black president have we overcome the problems of race and equality.

In the "Pound Cake Speech" by Bill Cosby, tells us about what's going on today. African American are being raised and how it is their everyday life. What was the point of Brown vs Board of education. If 50 percent of African Americans are drop outs and a huge percentage are in prison. Black people are killing, robbing, pimping, and going to prison. They're not even speaking proper English and they are not getting the proper parenting. Bill Cosby is saying we have to overcome this problem, make a use of life and not kill each other for a pound cake. Make a better life through education, its our obligation.

In the story "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. everyone is equal but the question is do we want everyone to be equal. In order for everyone to be equal some people have to suffer cause they're better than others. We want equality but not in every way, Some of us work harder than others. Not everyone is equal. For example we can't make a soccer player play basketball. Equality should be for some cases such as freedom and religion not to make everyone equal. Harrison Bergeron is not living in a ideal world, even though everyone is equal in all ways. People don't have the freedom and the way they want to live.

The poem "Dream" by Langston Hughes tells us to hold on to our dream don't let it go, its can easily fall apart. Life is hard.In order for us to overcome our obstacles, we will have to work hard. This poem shows us our view on equality, keep working on our dream of making everyone equal having a peaceful world and keep going face your obstacle, life is hard we will overcome. The poem "Children" by Jane Stembridge explains how cotton is heavy and its hard work to grow them, its not work for children around civil right movement children was working on cotton field, this poem is saying its not work for children so take them home. The poem "AIN'T I A WOMEN?" by Sojourner Truth tells us how hard she worked and about her struggle, she had thirteen kids who were sold into slavery. She works very hard. She plows, plants and gathers on the farm. She is a woman no one helps her. She gives example such as just because Jesus was a man, women don't have as much rights as man, She asks where did Jesus come from. This poem shows struggle of a women and what she went through during slavery period.

John Hope Franklin was a great historian and teacher. There is many things we could learn from his carrier. He helped further the Civil Rights struggle. John Hope Franklin was born on Jan. 2, 1915, in Rentiesville, Oklahoma. He died March 25, 2009, in Durham, N.C. He was 94. He helped in the case of Brown vs The Broad of ED. He worked with Martin Luther King Jr and Thurgood Marshall and other major civil rights figures of the 20th century. He was Honored with the medal of freedom in 1995 by Bill Clinton. Dr.Franklin also participated in the march from Selma to Montgomery, with Dr.Martin Luther King JR. Dr. Franklin taught in Harvard University. He was a great man, he is one of the people that actually worked hard to bring equality to our United States Of America. ""President Obama gave a speech on Feb 24. Tells us the troubled we are being faced with today. In order to get a decent job I am required to get a high school diploma and more. Half of the countries people don't have a high school diploma. Most of them are not finishing college. We are falling behind compared to other countries. This relates to equality and civil rights, what was the point of working so hard to get everyone's right if we are not going to be taking advantage of it and use it the proper way. This is what Obama is addressing to us. Its our choice to make the future better.

Wilson is a professor in Harvard University. He is addressing many issues that are being faced by African American such as black people have to compete for jobs with immigrant and others. They are not aiming for high class job also some have prison record.Wilson faced racial issues himself in his house elevator white couple thought he didn't belong there, they was feeling nervous so he told them who he was. After Obama became president statistics show the grade of African American raised, so they are being encouraged so we are looking at a brighter future.

Civil Rights" is not only about color. Its about us making a better way of living for the country and everyone. Obama said the police officer acted stupidly and took it as a racist motive without knowing what really went down, its the same way for the health care, many promises was made but the expectation wasn't met. Action speaks louder then word. Obama really have to be prepared, He represent us people. We elected him as our leader to a make better life for us and make better decisions for us. Civil rights and equality is among us we have to view the way we live and make better for ourselves. We have to treat everyone like we want to be treated.

Where are we today? shows how Civil Rights still play a major role in our lives today. In the last 20 years 50 percent of African American was declined to get farming loans. These people were ignored from there right. They were overlooked all of these days. Now Obama administration is making a difference. People that applied late for there loan now they will not be overlooked. 1.25 billion dollars was given for the purpose. Actions are being taken against the issue, this could bring equality for the farmer that didn't get the loan all of these days.

Sectary Duncan said so far his administration haven't been taking action but that is all about to change. He also said the last decade the civil rights office wasn't as vigilant as it should have been in combating gender and racial discrimination and protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities, this is all about to change. The civil rights administration is paid $103 hope to see improvement. In Re-segregation at N.C high school they are being faced with many issues its not only in that school its all around the united states student has opportunity but its not taking advantage of it. Some kids are not fortunate to have the same opportunity to a proper education. 99 percent of the kids going to the school is African American. Most of them are poor and it is impacting them. Hopefully this will change and we have a better future.Based my knowledge and what i read, civil right is a major issue in the United States. I wouldn't want the whole world to be equal in every way but in some cases we all deserve the same opportunity. Its all in our hand to make the world a better place bring equality among us. Treat the next person how you would want to be treated. Life will look much easier and better.
